Social Work

The intention of this guide is to assist MSW students in locating basic print and electronic resources at Touro University Libraries.

Finding Sources

Databases are a great place to search for individual articles from academic journals, magazines, and newspapers.

While many news and magazine articles may also be found with an internet search engine, our subscription databases can provide you with access to older articles that are not available online and other pay-per-view materials, plus additional options to refine your search. As far as scholarly articles go, databases should be your first stop! Most scholarly literature is not freely available outside of a university.

You can use the quicksearch function on the library homepage, which is also in the search box above, for more general research or use the subject specific databases below for more focused research.

Physical books are available through the Touro Library Catalog. You can have books from any Touro branch sent to the closest location to you, regardless of where you are taking classes. Follow these instructions to request a book.

You can also read ebooks from the comfort of your own home, or any Touro campus. Search for ebooks in the search box above, by filtering the quicksearch bar for ebooks, or clicking on the ebook button on the library homepage.

The items below are just a sampling of the many titles available:

What if I need a title that is not available in either the Touro College Libraries Print or eBook collections?

To request, please log in to the library website > click on the 'Services' dropdown menu > and click 'Request Materials from Another Library (ILL)'. Fill out the online form and submit your request for the item you need.

Learn more about Requesting Materials from Another Library (ILL) here.

Below are some good starting places for web research. For resources on licensing and becoming a social worker, see the social work practice page. For more focused resources on your area of interest or coursework, see the specializations page.

There are at least 75 eJournals relating to social work that are available in our databases. Journals are helpful for staying up to date with your field and familiarizing yourself with new avenues of research. You can find them by typing the journal titles into the eJournal textbox available on the Touro Library homepage or browsing the subject through Browzine. The following is a small sample:
