 Dr. Rabbi Joseph M. Baumgarten, (ztsl) was born in Vienna, received semichah from Torah VeDaat Yeshivah, and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University with dissertation under the direction of William Foxwell Albright. Dr. Baumgarten taught for many decades at the Baltimore Hebrew University as a world class scholar publishing many books and papers and lecturing across  all continents primarily on the Halakhic aspects of the DSS, a topic which the scholarly world recognized that Dr. Baumgarten was one of the leading authorities.
