Introduction to Psychology

Welcome to the LibGuide for psychology!  Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind, and covers a wide variety of subject matter.  There are many different branches of psychology, including:

  • developmental psychology -- human development starting with infancy and going into adulthood
  • abnormal psychology --  abnormal behavior and pathology
  • educational psychology -- issues with teaching and other educational concerns
  • industrial/organizational psychology -- businesses and other organizational behavior
  • forensic psychology -- issues with the law
  • cross-cultural psychology -- multicultural concerns
  • cognitive psychology -- memory, intelligence, attention
  • clinical psychology -- assessment and treatment of disorders
  • social psychology -- influence of other people on one's thoughts and behaviors

This LibGuide will help you locate places that have resources for your research.  Bring your mouse over the Psychology tab on the top of the page to get started. This will bring down a drop-down menu that you can click on to see databases, books, audiovisual materials, and websites.  The Using the Library and Writing & Citations tabs will also help you with locating resources and writing your paper.  For more information on databases, the catalog, and how to search them, plus tips for getting the most out of your web searches, check out our guides on Research Skills.
